Diving For Life is a volunteer-led nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that has thrived for more than three decades because members have stepped forward to contribute their time, talents, and ideas. Serving on the Board is an opportunity to give back to the DFL community, help guide the organization into the future, and ensure that our mission continues for generations to come.<\/p>\n
Our Board members are more than organizational leaders\u2014they are stewards of a community that has raised significant funds for LGBTQ+ health-related organizations while creating lifelong friendships and unforgettable experiences around the world.<\/p>\n

Diving For Life is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors consisting of nine Board members.<\/p>\n
Eligibility Requirements<\/p>\n
To serve on the Board, you must:<\/p>\n
\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Be at least 19 years of age.
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Be willing to actively participate in Board activities and meetings.
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Be elected by a majority vote of the current Board of Directors.<\/p>\n
Board members may serve a maximum of five consecutive three-year terms (15 years total).<\/p>\n
The term of a newly elected Board member begins on the Sunday following the conclusion of the Annual Jamboree, unless otherwise determined by the Board.<\/p>\n
Serving on the DFL Board is an active, year-round commitment. Board members are expected to participate in the discussions, planning, and decision-making that help shape both the organization and our Annual Jamborees.<\/p>\n
During the Annual Jamboree<\/p>\n
Board members are expected to:<\/p>\n
\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Attend the Annual Board Meeting held during Jamboree week (attendance is mandatory).
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Participate in Board discussions and organizational planning activities.
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Support fundraising events, including auctions and raffles.
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Serve as ambassadors for DFL and assist attendees as needed.
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Help ensure the Jamboree is a successful and enjoyable experience for everyone.<\/p>\n
Between Jamborees<\/p>\n
The work of DFL continues throughout the year. Board members are expected to:<\/p>\n
\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Participate in scheduled virtual Board meetings (approximately six meetings per year).
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Engage in ongoing discussions and decision-making between meetings as needed.
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Participate in committees, projects, and special initiatives.
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Contribute ideas and help guide the strategic direction of DFL.
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Support membership growth, communications, fundraising, and event planning activities.<\/p>\n
Active participation is important, as the decisions made by the Board help shape the future of DFL and the experiences of our members.<\/p>\n
Board members may have opportunities to serve in a variety of leadership roles, including:<\/p>\n

\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Trip Organizer and Assistant Trip Organizer

Board members should also expect to periodically participate in organizing future Annual Jamborees.<\/p>\n
Previous nonprofit Board experience is not required.<\/p>\n

As part of the selection process, the Board will consider the qualities, experiences, skills, and perspectives that each candidate would bring to the organization. The Board will also consider an applicant\u2019s familiarity with Diving For Life, participation in DFL events and activities, and demonstrated interest in our mission, community, and culture.<\/p>\n
As a nonprofit 501(c)(3) charitable organization, Diving For Life maintains a Conflict of Interest Policy as outlined in our Bylaws.<\/p>\n
Board members are expected to disclose any financial, personal, or professional interests that may relate to organizations connected with or benefiting from Diving For Life. Transparency and integrity are essential to maintaining the trust of our members, charitable partners, and the communities we serve.<\/p>\n
